The argument of "we pay taxes so the public should pay for my kids to go to private religious school" is bogus. If that logic is true, then those who are childless or who no longer have children in the school systems should not have to pay taxes to support any schools. I am definitely not advocating the latter; however, the purpose of the public school system is to provide education to all regardless of income, religious beliefs or social status. I realize there are inequalties in the public system and those need to be addressed. But public funding of private religious schools is not the answer. If a parent or parents consider sending their child to a religious private school, they should know that they will have to make some sacrifices to do so. But if the state government decides to do so, then they will have to do for any religious school not just Christian. Imagine if this was an Islamic or Jewish school asking for this status.
